Since being married, Joel and I have discovered how Night and Day we truly are. NOT in a bad way... just in a way that makes us so right for each other.

A good friend told us shortly after being married, that we should take a Myer Briggs personality test just to see where we scale in comparison with each other. MB is the test with 4 letters that describe you. Introverted or Extroverted, iNtuitive or Sensing, Feeling or Thinking, and Judging or Perceiving. Yup come to find out, Night and Day right here. Joel is an ENTP and I am an ISFJ. Ironically enough I read that an ISFJ is the hardest of the 16 personalities to get along with (thanks MB for that!!) And an ENTP is one of the most easy to get along with and most flexible in terms of getting along with everyone else. Meaning, I married someone who can get along with the most "un get along able" of the types. Sweet. Anyways, just wanted to pass that along. Go find a free version online, take it, and read about yourself. I was smiling as I read my description because it was so scary accurate.

Joel is the ultimate relaxer and never worrier. I am the ultimate high strung freak outer. We are starting to rub off on each other. I'm learning that it's OK to sit down sometimes in the evenings, and he's learning how to help me when I'm stressed out. And we're both doing it without being told. I don't have to ask him to do things for me, and I'm learning that every single thing doesn't have to be done TODAY.

This week I was getting frustrated with work and the fact that I get home so much later. When I lived with mom and dad, I'd get home at 5:30-6 and supper would be ready. (I have a great mom) Now, I come home and guess what. Supper isn't ready. This past Monday I got home at 7:00 and was like "Great I still have to make supper" Yes I will confess we had frozen pizza. So by Wednesday or so this week, I was frustrated and Joel was like "You don't have to cook you know...." Do I have the best husband ever? Yes. Come to find out, he doesn't really care if I cook, I'm the only one who really cares. So new approach. I'll be doing more cooking on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and more going out during the week. Why didn't we think of this before? Instead I spend all Saturday being lazy, then we go out to eat. So that's gonna change. :)

My face is burning

I just wanted to grab some attention with my title. Actually I just wanted to rub in that I'm sitting outside in the glorious labor day sunshine updating my blog. It is burning though. My pasty white skin hasn't seen sun for weeks, so one hour is frying my face. Sad but true!

I started work this past week. It was kind of a week of ups and downs. Monday was orientation and program training. I actually came home very tearful & upset Monday night with this whole realization that summer vacations are over, spring breaks are over, no more getting off work at noon, no more lazy days. It just kinda hit me like a brick on my first day. Also I was informed I'll be doing some traveling in the upcoming months. I'm looking at St. Louis & southern IL for weeks at a time at the end of this year. The most sad thing about that is the fact that I'm still a newlywed and having to be gone for weeks at a time is kind of sad :( I'll miss Joel, but we've both decided he'll probably get better grades while I'm gone. In the evenings when I'm home from work, I demand time, and if I'm not there, he'll have better grades. Still sad though.

But on the plus side, I am busy working doing what I love. I worked on my first engagement this past Friday and just soaked it up. I worked for about 5-6 hours, but the day flew by because I was actually doing what I love. The days actually do go really fast when I'm busy on an engagement. So IF I'm traveling, chances are I'll be busy and it will go by fast.

Joel started his semester and he's already hopping busy. He has Peds clinicals on Monday at the childrens hospital of IL at OSF. He's only gone once for orientation but I'll update when I know if he enjoys it or not. He has ob/gyn clinicals on Fridays. He had his first clinical this past Friday and he watched a C-section delivery of twins. Um... JEALOUS!! Our conversation Friday evening:

Joel: How was your day?
Marcy: Oh it was good. I was out on a client engagement today. Audited some current assets. How was your day?
Joel: Cool. I watched a C-section on twins. It was SWEET.

Yeah I decided he probably picked the cooler profession. Although someday he'll come home and I'll ask him what he did and he'll say he wiped butts and changed bedpans all day. Then I won't be so jealous! :)

Saturday: Went boating with Mike, Carmen, Mindy, & Mom. It was AWESOME. Totally rained the later half of the day but I didn't care. We just boated, tubed, skiied, and double skiied. I've never skiied with two ropes and two skiiers and it was probably the highlight of my day. You couldn't knock the stupid grin off my face even though it was chilly, rainy, and windy. I'm in my element when I get to go on a boat. THANKS Mike & Carm! :)

No exciting plans here for Labor day. Joel worked 3rds last night, had clinical orientation this morning, and is working 3rds again tonight. Woohoo. Love 3rds. Just kidding.

Probably the only August post

I always tell myself I'm going to post a little more often, but in reality there's nothing new or exciting enough to post! :/

I start work at Clifton on Aug 31, which is 8 days from now. Many feelings about that. Excited, but also nervous. Excited to get out and work and be busy. Nervous, cuz I've never worked full time while married. Joel and I have already discussed how this "cooking" thing is probably going to diminish considerably. I told him he could pick his favorite meals this week for me to cook because it might not happen so often once I start ;) I also figure it will be nice to have a real paycheck to pay bills and buy the things we've been putting off for so long. Joel's laptop sparks when it's plugged in (I'm convinced it will literally blow up one day, I'm not kidding) so he'll need a new one. Also have a dining room table picked out. Our current table can squeeze 4 people (not comfortably) and we have a grand total of 2 chairs. So it might be nice to have a real set :)

Today we had G&G Dunlap's 25th wedding anniversary. It's been a busy weekend cleaning, yard work, and preparing food for the big event! So much fun though. They had 60ish people out to their place today. It was so special to celebrate their day!!

I'll post again when I start work :)

Has it really been that long...

It's been way too long since I've posted on here. I realize that. After several messages from friends on Facebook, I'm back to updating again. I'll try better this next month I promise!! I'm just gonna post tidbits for now & post more later.

So I still work for Nate & Justin Herman, a job I love. It's funny - I was hired to fix their books and do accounting stuff. I probably do accounting stuff for like 15 minutes a day now, and the rest I do their shipments. I can tell you anything you need to know about pond chemicals now!! :)

I spend lots of time writing thank you's. Seriously, when does this end!! I thought I'd be long done by now, but every time I look through my list, I was never even half done. I officially passed half done sometime this past week. Sad...

But the good news is everything is completely put away now, and decorating is done too. Yes friends, it looks like a home. Come visit, come see it!

I've also decided I'm not a fan of Joel's overnight job. He works 3rds, which I DON'T like. I didn't think I'd mind so much, but I've become quite a baby since being married. I don't like to be in my house by myself. I LOVED it when I lived in Bloomington, but now I don't like it.

I will put myself on the list with EVERYONE else that has complained about this being a rainy summer. I've wanted to spend time at the pool every weekend, and it hasn't happened for about 3 weeks. Guess that's what happens when it's cloudy/rainy every weekend! :( I have not given up hope! I still have another 6-7 weeks until I start full time. So I'm hoping the sun will shine for me! I love lazy pool days! But then again, who doesn't? :)

Honeymoon adventures

I'll start by saying the trip overall was fabulous. We had nice weather, great resort, and met some fun people. I'll just start at the beginning though.

We drove to St. Louis Wednesday and were up by 4 the next morning to get on a flight to Cozumel. We boarded the plane and thought all was well. The captain told us there was a ground stop in Dallas for 45 minutes due to thunderstorms. OK we thought. We'll still make it. We started to get antsy when the ground hold kept delaying us further. We sat on the plane for about 4 hours, then the captain comes on again and says those dreaded words. "We're sorry folks. After all your patience, we are indeed cancelling this flight" What?? OK so off the plane. We called Expedia (whom we booked through) No they can't do anything for us. It's in American Airline's hands now. So we call American. They can get us to Cancun tomorrow (but not Cozumel) So we took that option, the sooner the better. We went to the St. Louis zoo that afternoon, which was the fun part of the day. Time for supper. Joel's got a GPS in his phone so we punch in Chili's cuz we both think that sounds good. It gives us directions to the nearest one. We end up driving to the St. Louis airport and it saying we were there. Umm..... So apparently there's a Chili's INSIDE the terminal. Really? We ended up going to Applebee's instead. So much for the great GPS.

Next morning started exactly like the previous morning. Up at 4 and waiting for the hotel shuttle. It was ironic how excited we were the morning before and how having to do it all over again was SO grumpy. We made it into Cancun with no flight troubles at all. Once there, we had to go through a line of immigration, wait in the line because of course Joel's bag didn't show up because it was tagged to Cozumel, wait in customs line, and finally we had to figure out how we were going to get from Cancun to Cozumel. So we found a bus that would take us to Playa del Carmen and from there, we walked to the ferry site. The ferry ran on even times. So 12, 2, 4, 6, etc. We got there at 2:08. Yes just our luck, right? We waited around and finally got to the island at about 4:45. Waited in line for a taxi. And FINALLY got to the resort.... So worth it....

Funnyish stories from the trip:

We went to bed at 8:30 the night we got there. We were SO TIRED... Around 11:30 we just hear this knocking. knock knock knock......... knock knock knock...... This continued on for several minutes. I got up and looked through the peep hole. Some guy. I'm not answering it!! So I go back and I'm like "Joel this guy really isn't going to go away!" I figured whoever it was would figure out we were sleeping or just not there, but he knocked for so long. Joel finally got up and answered the door. It was his luggage!! :) So the bellboy was a little startled and embarassed to have woken us up. But well worth it. Joel had been wearing the same clothes for 2 days. :P

We went shopping in Cozumel on Monday. We thought oh this will be fun. We'll get a knock off Rolex for $15 and some Oakley sunglasses. You know, the usual stuff in Mexico. Think again. Stupid swine flu seriously scared everyone away. It's not worth it to the merchants to open the stores if no one is around. The "mall" was a dead zone. Maybe 4 stores open out of 40 or so. It was crazy!! So we didn't get the dumb touristy stuff everyone gets. :/ Oh well!

Vaca tomorrow :)

We leave for Cozumel tomorrow. I'm just a little bit antsy. I'm excited, but yet I don't feel like we're ready to go at all. I hate the feeling of leaving everything behind and not getting anything done. I've been told I need to work on this so it will probably be good to just go and not think about life. In the meantime, I have about 34857 things to do tomorrow before we can leave. I am working early in the morning, then appointment, then lunch with Natalie & Landre, then lots of packing, cleaning out the car, running to Wal-mart, printing off itineraries and vouchers, then finally when Joel gets home from his last final, we're supposed to drive down to St. Louis. Phew!! I'll be ready for a vacation! :)

New life

So I realized this evening that I haven't posted since I've been married so this is overdue (it's always overdue though!!) Married life is good. It's actually less different than I thought it would be, if that makes sense. I thought marriage would be this crazy change, and I'd have to get used to all these new things at once and so far it's not that different. I know it'll change as we move along, but one week to the next didn't make a ton of difference. I lived in our house first, so it's not like I had to move. Since Joel lived so close, I still saw him most days anyways. I was already doing laundry, cleaning, cooking on my own, so none of that was new. The difference is Joel being here and STAYING here. :)

You might also think that since we've been here for 2 weeks now that I'd be organized. Negative!! I have MOST of the stuff put away in cupboards, cabinets, etc. BUT I still have one counter that has boxes needing to be put away, and I have a stack of empty cardboard boxes that needs to be burned (when Joel has time), and I have a stack of stuff to return to Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Bergners. I also have a decoration stack, picture frames, wall art, shelves etc that needs to be put up, but I have NO taste for interior decorating so I have to wait for someone with expertise in that area to have time to come help me. It's pathetic really.

Since I am still in limbo with my full time job, I am working part time to fight off the bills. CG is still saying "fall" but I don't have a set date yet. In the meantime I have several months that will need income to pay the bills. Joel is taking summer classes (full load) so him working this summer isn't really an option. So our awesome friend Justin offered for me to help book keep for his business with his brother Nate. It's a win-win situtation for us I think. I needed something extra to do, and they needed extra summer help to keep up with bills and office stuff while they are out on jobs. So I am working (as of now) Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It's a great job - I already love it! :)

Joel has finals for the next week straight. He starts Thursday and has one like every day until May 13 the next week. Then we leave for Cozumel May 13! :) I'll post pics of that when we get back. We're pretty pumped. If anyone has any good Mexico advice (no stupid flu comments please) we're totally open to suggestions. What's fun to do around Cozumel/Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen/Cancun? Snorkeling? Scuba diving? We're not world travelers. So any advice would be appreciated!

Last Minute

This'll be my last post as Marcy Kaiser. I just wanted to write one more time. This week we've moved in basically everything (although not everything is put away). I did laundry for the first time yesterday :) Not something I normally enjoy but the towels/rags seemed to be piling up. I got my dress today and that was exciting. :) Tomorrow I am getting a massage & nails done with my bridesmaids. And then date with Joel. We wanted some "us" time because this weekend will be crazy.

I hope to see you all there on Sunday! Ha...

So I am quite pleased to report my house is taking much better shape. Vanity, mirror, and toilet are all in the bathroom. That's what I was waiting for to move in. So hopefully Monday I will spend some time moving some of my clothes & basic stuff over so I can start living there. There's a layer of dust on EVERYTHING, so the whole house needs a deep clean before I put anything away.

There are still some things to work on. I still have a trash compacter (that needs to go BAD!!!) and my dishwasher also doesn't work. My dad said he'd take care of that stuff when we go on our honeymoon in May.

Joel and I started moving our "stuff" into the house today. Basically like our books, shelves, old stuff, whatever. Since I've already moved out several times, I've kind of cleaned through my old junk so the stuff I'm taking is recent stuff. Joel has never moved out so we're finding books and stuff from jr. high & high school. Yeah. So we will be picking through his stuff to figure out what we can pitch once we're married. :)

Also enjoying the Easter weekend. Even with all the moving/house stuff, I've had some time to reflect on Jesus this past week and what Easter really means. Yesterday was a blessing and I'm looking forward to tomorrow as well. Joel and I are going to my mom's family in the afternoon and my dad's family in the evening!

Can't wait to see you all at the wedding. HOLLA! Happy Easter :)

12 days my friends

Yes my title refers to the wedding. It's so weird to think I'll be a married person in 12 days. I'm so ready to be done with the wedding details that I just don't care about anyways and move on to normal life! It's not about the day, its about the lifetime together.

The house still has some issues, but is getting closer. Man I keep telling myself I'm going to go over & take pictures and put them in here, but I never do. It's not very nice anyways. I have mountains of bags with gifts in the living room. That's the GOOD mess. The one I'm not worried about because it's my "blessing room". It reminds me how blessed I am. I almost don't want to put my stuff away. Actually, I'm SO looking forward to it. It's seriously going to be the funnest job I think.

The bathroom is still the room I'm waiting on until I can move in. Tile is sort of in, but the grout (sp?) is not in. Dad says it takes several days to dry. THEN the toilet and vanity can go in. Sigh... I jokingly told Joel about a month ago we'd be living in a hotel for a few weeks til our house was done. I laughed because I was kidding.... I'm still sort of laughing but I won't be if we still don't have all necessary plumbing devices in next week!!!!!!

Anyways I've been told that painting is also a priority. So I am going to do some of that tomorrow. holla. I'll try to remember to take my camera!!

And.... Aunt Renee won the election for Tremont school board! Yay! Congrats Aunt Renee!

Thursday ramblings

Disclaimer: This post is simply for ventilation purposes. It is not exciting, read only if you're bored enough....

Does anyone like to paint?
Does anyone like to clean cabinets?
Does anyone like to tile floors?
Does anyone know how to install a vanity or a toilet?
Does anyone LIKE to write thank yous??

AUGH!!!!

I'm done venting.... this is all my life has revolved around lately. Well mostly the cleaning, painting, and thank you's. It's funny, I said I was happy to leave work so I could get some of this stuff done. How I wish I were auditing...

My house is almost move in ready. Key word there being almost. Still areas needing paint. Stuff needs to be put away. But the thing I'm lacking is a toilet. Put the toilet in and I'm good to live there. Even if the rest of the house needs a lot of work :P

Also, if anyone wants to make returns/exchanges, I have a list of places to go with multiple returns to each place. Overabundance isn't something to complain about, so I'm not. Just another thing that needs to be done. :)

17 days.... count 'em down people. I am.

P.S. I also have to write a paper on my internship if anyone is interested. I'll give it to the highest bidder who would like to do that for me ;)

Way late...

I realized I haven't blogged in a very long time! I've had several very nice little reminders that I need to update it. :)

Well since my last blog, my internship with Clifton is over. It ended on the 20th of March. I was happy and sad. Happy to get going on wedding planning, cuz I procrastinated on some things so long. I kept telling myself "Well I have several weeks before the wedding that I'm not working. I can do it then" So now I'm paying for it. I realized just how much left I have to do. I'm also sad because I really really enjoyed it. I loved the people I worked with, and I loved the job. So I am sad to see it go for a while. I also am missing the paycheck. As you can imagine. I'm supposed to get married and support Joel and myself for 2-4 months without ever getting a check with my name on it. We'll get through. Faith is playing a major role right now. It's the only thing I really have.

House disaster:
Some of you know this story and some don't but it's worth telling. So Joel and I are renting a duplex from my dad. We told the tenant that she needed to be out by Feb 28 because there was a new tenant needing to move in. She needed a couple of extra days because for some reason that was too early. So she wasn't out until the end of the first week of March. No big deal, right? Well it's pretty safe to say the house was a disaster. She had cats that had ruined the carpet, clawed on stuff, etc. The bathroom floor also had mold/damage in the wood underneath the lineleum (sp?). The entire house needed to be painted. Dishwasher doesn't work cuz it leaks, vanity in bathroom needed to be replaced. In a nutshell this was a house in need of "flipping". So we are down to 18 days before the wedding and this place still isn't livable. Granted, MUCH has been done but the bathroom was a huge job. Flooring needs to be put in, tile laid, and toilet and vanity put in. Can't hardly live there without a toilet :P The furniture came Monday and it's AWESOME!! We're down to a few jobs left, I'm just hoping we can get them done before the 19th! Yikes! Otherwise Joel and I might take up residence in a hotel for a while. Haha.

Wedding Stuff:
Just misc stuff. I'm about halfway through my showers now. I've had both church showers, a family shower, and personal shower. I still have a few yet this weekend. We've been very blessed with a lot of really nice stuff. We are so blessed with such generous family, friends, and churches. We're overflowing! :) But in a good way! God is good. We're down to nitty gritty of stuff to do yet. Thank yous, finishing house, etc. Just small stuff. I'm glad this is almost over!! I will be thankful to never hear "What do you think about this?" in regards to something wedding related. I simply don't care!!!! It's just a wedding, it's one day.

I will try really hard to remember to update again soon. I know I don't do this enough.

And you think auditing is boring.....

Thanks for all the comments on my last post. I am glad I still have friends. :) :)

This whole post is about my weird client at work. If you don't care about auditing, I'd maybe save your 4 minutes for someone with a more interesting life ;)

This has been a really interesting week of work. I've been at the same client location for about 5 weeks straight, and I started a new client this week. It's almost so entertaining I can't even work. No joke. I go to work today, and the lady in the office next to me talks non-stop to another lady, about the medicine she's been giving her dog (and how it's not working). She also called "the city" because someone left her a note last night saying she's not allowed to have a trailer in her front yard. She didn't think that was right.
At 9 a.m. she goes to the microwave and bakes a potato. Yes puts a potato in the microwave for 10 minutes and eats it for breakfast. Every day. Her phone has the most obnoxious ringtone I've ever heard in my entire life. And it rings... all... the time. It's some gangsta ringtone and she's totally not gangsta.
We found a $11,500 check posted in an account. I had no idea where this check came from. I asked her. She didn't know either. Her response: "Well we just got that check in the mail and cashed it". You did WHAT??? By lunch time me and my partner had to leave to get food because we were laughing so hard. And people think auditing is boring. NO IT'S NOT!

PS. The fire alarm has gone off 3 times, and the power has gone out twice. It's been super fun.

I thought of another #26 (for my 25 random things list)
26. I am scared of owls. I truthfully couldn't tell you why. I just think they look creepy and have big eyes and the hooting is weird. People think they're just like nice birds that like to come out at night. I think they're icky and creepy and I don't like to hear the hooting sound. It's weird.

I'm done.

The 25 random things

So I've been noticing on facebook that everyone is doing the "25 random things about me" and I thought I'd do it on here. Mainly cuz less people read this and that's just less people to think I'm a weirdo (even though most people know I am). Here we go...

1. I am the oldest in my family and am very much a "first child" by the rules of birth order.
2. I am an accountant. The world needs them. I audit things. It's very fun.
3. I learned how to spell refrigerator recently. I always thought it had a "d" in it because "fridge" does. Yes I am very smart now.
4. My alarm wakes me up exactly 55 minutes before I need to get out of my bed. 6:05 - 7:00 is spent hitting "snooze" 11 times. Please do not ask me why because I don't know.
5. My very favorite thing to do on a free summer day is go to Uncle Jerry's pool and lay on a raft all afternoon. It's pretty fantastic.
6. I am marrying Joely on April 19. No sooner cuz I can't miss tax season. No later because we wanted to beat the May/June wedding rush.
7. We are going to Cozumel, Mexico for our honeymoon in May.
8. I do not like several very normal foods: cheese, salads, most desserts, seafood, any many other things people think I am weird for living without.
9. I like to read John Grisham books. I love law.
10. Speaking of law, if I hadn't been an accountant, I briefly considered law (like paralegal or something).
11. I am addicted to chapstick.
12. I worked for Delta Airlines in Bloomington for about a year. It was the most miserable job I've ever had. Horrible hours, cold, and the worst encounters with rude passengers on a daily basis. I'd hold it together while I was there and go home and cry. If you have to fly PLEASE be nice to the people at the counter. They're people, just like you.
13. I've always been addicted to Pepsi, but lately it's been Mountain dew. Do the dew people.
14. I'm a home-body. I like to stay home and sit and do nothing. Cuz I love to do that. I'd rather stay home on weekends then be social.
15. I would like to have 2-3 kids. It's great because without comparing notes beforehand, Joel had the exact same answer. :)
16. I love to organize stuff. Love to! Maybe goes along with my wanting to stay home all the time. I love to clean my closet even though it's clean 99.9% of the time.
17. I worked at Cat for 3 years, and am really glad I didn't try to get hired full time because I'd be looking at a rescinded offer right now.
18. I really don't like to shop. Not normal for a girl my age, but I don't enjoy walking through a mall trying to find clothes I like & that fit me right. Just not real fun.
19. I drove a Buick LeSabre as my first car. It was a hot car. Everyone was envious.
20. Then I bought a cavalier and wrecked it within the first 6 months by colliding with a cement truck on a -4 degree day.
21. I was on the scholastic bowl team in school. Now how's that for totally cool!
22. I have a whole laundry list of places I'd like to go someday: Colorado, Hawaii, parts of Europe, NYC, and other places.
23. I never drank coffee all through college until I started my full time job. Now I drink it every morning and don't think I'd function well without it anymore. It's sad really.
24. My wedding colors are orange, pink, and green. As disgusting and odd as it sounds, it will be very bright and in my opinion very cool.
25. I had braces for 3 years and they were painful, but the straight teeth were still worth it.

Thanks for reading. As for life updates, there isn't a ton to report. The new job is going well. I've been out at "the client" for the past month. I am not supposed to share who my clients are, but it's basically an apartment property management place. So I am learning a lot and doing some fun auditing. Never thought auditing could be fun, but it is somehow. I am not envying Clifton's tax department, as I drove through Peoria late the other night and saw all the lights on still on the tax floor at CG. Not envious at all. Wedding planning is still going well. I'm getting into the "nitty gritty" now and it's not as fun. Like, random cake details and reception cards for the invitations. But it's part of the deal. I just let my mom do most of the decisions cuz she has better style and taste than I do. It's true!!

My first post of '09

Well it's time to do this again! I called a special friend today, and she informed me that she misses reading my blog. She says she checks it every day hoping I'll write. How sweet of her :)

Just an update on how stuff is going. I started my job on Monday! It's fun and not so fun, at the same time. I think I'm going to like it once I get into it but it's a really slow start. I've been there for 3 days doing non stop training. That's also what I will be doing tomorrow & Friday. I know training is essential to any job, but at this point I kind of feel like I'm maxed out in just learning, and I need some hands on experience to actually UNDERSTAND what I'm learning. Cuz sitting in a conference room isn't helping me get anything. But I'll keep you all updated. I start traveling a week from Monday. Then I will be auditing 4 different companies in 4 weeks. Starting in Havana, IL. Sweet huh. Havana!! Haha..... (note some sarcasm there)

Wedding planning: Seriously, I feel like every thing is done that can be. I knocked a ton of it out while I was in between my jobs. My dress & bridesmaids dresses are designed and moving. Invitation lists are complete. Registering is done. Feel free to buy me a gift! :) j/k. We know where we're living, we think we have furniture mostly lined up. Cake lady is reserved for my date. Invitations aren't actually ordered but we know what we're doing at least, which is good I guess. Yeah, so I don't feel a lot of wedding stress right now. Actually the BIGGEST thing I am stressed about is finding ties. Seriously, I can't find ties to match my poor bridesmaids. Probably because I am making them wear the oddest color known to man.

Spending lots of time with both families. I am at Cox's a lot, and he is at my house a lot. Joel and my brother Trent seem to bond quite well. Just tonight they were being pyromaniacs, setting things on fire. Oh the bonds of brotherhood. And I like going to their house because Joel's 7 year old sister Misha reads me books and tells me all about life and it's many dramas.

I also am sitting thinking of how this is the 1st year in a long time on January 7 I've been in IL. The past 3 years I've gone to Florida with Uncle Jerry's family. I MISS IT!!! I am freezing in IL while I could be sitting outside in short sleeves under the stars. Gag.

Surprise....

Well I've been getting many requests from people to update my blog. With good reason I guess. I just never thought anyone was reading it anymore anyways. But with many requests and many life changes, I am writing again.

Obviously the biggest change is my engagement to Joel Cox. To give the condensed version, Joel and I have been friends for 4-5 years. We met at ICC and we both attend the Apostolic Christian church. I have had friends come and go throughout college. I had friends at ICC that somewhat dispersed once we all moved on to different schools. But Joel and I stayed good friends anyways. In the past year or so, we've felt God leading us towards marriage. It's really awesome to see God's hand working in our lives. We've set a date: April 19 so all of you get it on your calendars!! We've done all kinds of fun stuff the past few weeks.

Funny Story: The day we got engaged (Monday), we went to my G&G Kaiser's house so Joel could meet them. We were inside longer than I thought we would be, so I went out to his car cuz I wanted to get my phone. As I was turning the key to unlock his car, it snapped. Weird! So I had to go inside and explain to my new fiancee that I broke the key to his door. He bought his car used, so they didn't give him a spare. So he had to call his dad, the dealership, and AAA. Grandma gave him a wire coat hanger and he broke in his car that way. Funny, he still loves me and wants to marry me anyways. (even though I showed him I am a walking disaster).

So I will post more later about what's going on, but that's the jist of it. We registered last week too, although my lists are far from finalized. I have no idea what I'm doing!! I've been calling all my married friends asking for opinions and help. Which they are flattered that I am asking for their opinions! But still..... advice is always appreciated! :)

Fun Stuff

I finished work yesterday!! Finally after talking about it for a whole 6 weeks or whatever, I'm finally done! I took in my scrubs and logo shirts for someone else to have. As I was leaving the doc was talking about giving me my last check and taking me off payroll. (tear)

Finals are this next week as I posted previously so I am studying this weekend. They're not too hard and I'm making progress (re-learning things I learned in September)

I got new carpet in my room yesterday and it looks very nice. This whole process also involved organizing all my old stuff. I cleaned out my closet, bookshelf, etc. My room hasn't been this clean since I moved out 3 years ago!! :)

"Race" to the finish

Lots of endings this month.... End of school.... end of work....
I don't just mean for Christmas break either. I am done with school (not graduating just yet, but done with the classroom at least). And you may all laugh because I keep saying I am almost done with work and I never really am. OK for real. I honestly think this Friday will be my last day. Why now, you may ask? Because I taught Christie the last thing on the "to-teach" list. Friday will be tying up loose ends. She's a pro and no longer needs my assistance :)

The title of this blog is so untrue cuz I'm not really racing to the finish. But I know my peers are. I look on facebook and I see statuses like "... is writing papers and studying" and ".....is glad there is only ONE more week left" and other things. But anyone who is in college right now has something about the end of school in their status. I am not sitting around doing nothing, by any means. But this week has been the easiest last week of the semester of my 9 semesters. Does that make sense? I just mean I'm working on homework assignments, but not huge group projects and major papers.

Next week will TRULY be a different story. Because I have 4 finals in 26 hours. Is this normal? To me it seems like overkill. So you can pray for me between 1:00 on Tuesday and 3:00 on Wednesday. Quite honestly though this sounds worse than it really is. 3 of the 4 will be "easy" meaning I know the material and I have solid grades.

Last Sunday we had a minister visit from Taylor; I was GLUED the entire service. He read out of 2 Thessalonians 1. Now I'll admit I haven't read this chapter too many times. He discussed the concept of "rest in the Lord". He talked about trusting God through difficult circumstances and thanking Him even for the bad stuff in life. We're supposed to give God thanks - even through our trials. When you're being tried, do you thank God anyways? It's easier said than done.

Also I loved another point he made - You can't simulate afflictions. Meaning you can't feel the pain others are feeling on purpose. The only way to truly feel this "pain" is to die daily. He discussed how in denying yourself and saying no to sin, you will approach the throne of God and feel his presence. I just thought that point was interesting. If any of you readers were there and care to comment, please do, because I am curious what others thought.

Thanksgiving break

I don't know how this is possible but this past week has been slow and busy at the same time... (?) ISU has the entire week off classes, which is awesome! I had a few assignments to do over break, and I finished them both on Monday and Tuesday. This has left the rest of the week with nothing school related to do. No complaints from me! It's just weird to me, that's all.

We've been working on painting my bedroom and getting it ready to move back in to. I've been coming home on weekends for the past 3 years since I moved out. I haven't taken very good care of my room cuz I'm not here enough to clean it and worry about it. Anyways, before it was my room it was Derek's (from when the boys were REALLY little) Needless to say, the wallpaper and carpet they had as young boys has been in "my" room for the past 3 years. Picture that! We're talking brown carpet & blue wallpaper with aviator plane border. Quite honestly, I just haven't cared for the past 3 years what this room has looked like. It has a bed I can sleep in and a closet & that's about all I've cared about. But now that I'm going to be home full time, I wanted it to look normal. So now it has taupe walls (which we've been painting this week) and it will have new carpet or hardwood floors. I'm pumped!

I had a nice thanksgiving with family. I went to both sides this year (Kaiser's and Dunlap's) and that was fun. I got to see family I don't get to see too often. Black Friday shopping: I didn't do it this year. Well .... sort of. I didn't go out and stand in line at 4 AM as some of you crazy people maybe did! BUT I did go to Bergners around 11 and get some shoes and a coat. Both of them were steals and I didn't even have to stand in line for 5 hours to get them!!

Easiest Semester...

I found this post in my drafts, for some reason I thought I had posted it but I guess I never did :P

So.... it is the week before Thanksgiving break. Historically this week is crazy for me. Meaning, all professors give a whole bunch of assignments due the week before Thanksgiving break and/or tests. I had one test on Tuesday at 12:35. So let's just say my break officially started on Tuesday at 1:45. Yeah... it's been really nice. Yes I'm going to class but I don't have stuff due and no more tests or projects due until after break. I have a group case for tax due on Tuesday after break, but I already have my portion over half done. I can't even tell you how great this feels. Not rubbing it in (to any of you who are pulling their hair out, I was there last year, trust me) but this feels so nice to be a senior & my last 1-2 weeks of class are cake.

You may also be asking - what about this job you were supposed to be done with at the end of October? .... Yup, I'm still working there.... with no real end in sight. I am training our new insurance person Christie. She's awesome, but combining with a second doctor has just made my "old" job such a challenge that I am helping her get things straightened out before I even start training. I mean we seriously have spent the past 3 weeks trying to get systems running & patients going and stuff. So today was my first day that I actually trained her on what she's supposed to be doing! If you are 65+ and reading this blog, I pity for you because Medicare is by far the most difficult organization to work with.

The closer I get to moving out of Bloomington, the more I find I dislike it. I probably won't miss the 8 out of 8 red stop lights on my way to work every morning. Turns 3 miles into 15 minutes. The airport authority is also cutting down trees in our backyard to expand the fence. The parking deck at ISU is a zoo because they're doing construction (to build more parking I hear) and in the meantime I can never find a parking spot. Which makes me late for class. :( Hm... enough venting. I just am going to be ready to leave this town, considering I've spent 3 years here working my tail off and getting less sleep than I've ever gotten in my whole life. But I think two bachelor's degrees are making it WELL worth it... :)

It's cold

Even though it has been an unexciting week, I don't think I could go that long without posting at least something!

The highlight of my week has been Saturday - Katie Herman and I drove up to Chicago to meet Kaits & go shopping! It was fun! We went to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. It was a cold day so it was a good day to shop inside instead of hitting the magnificent mile (although that would have been MUCH eaiser for Kaits! sorry!) So I notice that everyone and their dog wears "The North Face" jackets. Can someone please tell me... are they worth the money? I know they're expensive, so why are they all the rage? When I was younger, I remember everyone wore Columbia Sportswear jackets. The North Face has taken over! I'd jump on the bandwagon if they're really something great, but otherwise I won't pay for the name brand.

Also we went to the Rainforest Cafe. It wasn't quite the great thing people make it out to be. As Katie and Kaits told me "You pay for the atmosphere" I guess if you're into loud animals & thunderstorms, it's cool. But I'm a wimp and I thought the gorilla above our table was creepy.

So I don't think this will be my last week at work yet. I thought it was (again) but my job is more involved than Dr. Z thinks. So I'm working until I'm "not needed".

Tax test tomorrow. They're a really big deal. I should be studying but instead I'm in this Financial theory class I despise, so it's a good time to blog. Cuz tonight I'll be studying like crazy. 2 weeks til Thanksgiving break! (Yes I am pumped) I have a lot to do in the next 2 weeks, but it'll go fast! :)

Praying for our country

So tomorrow is election day as everyone knows. I'll admit I already voted. Yup, Friday I went down to the Tazewell county courthouse & voted my straight ticket. Of course I hope my candidates win, but I know that's not realistic. At least Aaron Schock should win. Just not a huge fan of Colleen Callahan. She's not a very nice lady!! I also am sick of political commercials. They're on ALL THE TIME. So much mud-slinging & outright lies. I forgot how much I dislike October of election years.

I am doing this tax return for my class & it's fun. OK really, it is. Tax returns are kinda like puzzles. Once you figure out what number goes where, it all comes together nicely. I know 95% of you reading this think I'm crazy but whatever. Someone's gotta do it! :)

Dude work is crazy!! Our new doctor started today & brought his staff over with him. I worked this afternoon (which I usually don't do) I thought I was going to be done on Friday but there is no way that'll happen. If I was done on Friday, he'd be calling me Monday morning asking me to come back in and help. Our office has patient files & x-rays & junk everywhere. Not a single one of us was bored today. I have the feeling this will be a busy week, not only with consolidating files, but with 2 of us leaving! I'm eating up the extra hours cuz I know I'll be missing my income pretty soon!

Winding down

I went home this past Tuesday night - something I haven't hardly done this semester. I used to go home mid-week a lot, but that has not really happened yet! I had my Tuesday night class for the first 8 weeks, but that was always so stressful I never made it home. But I went over after class yesterday & it was great fun. Mom made chili. I'm a little spoiled sometimes ;) If they know I'm coming home, mom will make my favorite meals & Trent will actually stay home. Whether he admits it or not, he kinda likes me :) The joke is on me every time I go home. We also had leftover pizza and Dad told me probably 4 times throughout the meal I couldn't have any because I had requested the chili. I actually believed him until about the 5th time and he couldn't hide his onery smile anymore. Silly Dad.

I have had two tests this week, but both were pretty decent. I honestly can say this has been my easiest semester so far at ISU. My last one is the easiest, how ironic is that? I got all my super-hard classes done early and crammed them all together. Now this last semester is only 12 credits and they aren't even super hard! :) I do have a tax problem due tomorrow (which is still not quite done), but since the two tests are done, makes the rest of the week seem easy!

Work is almost done too, which is getting very sad. I have grown very fond of my job, my patients, my coworkers. Ya know. It's just sad to leave it all behind (which I will be doing probably at the end of next week). I will go visit sometimes, cuz lets face it, I can't say goodbye to people forever! But on the bright side, I made a list this past week of "problem files" meaning any patients or insurance companies that have issues. As I made this list I thought "Maybe I won't miss this so much after all....." :)

Christmas songs already??

I just realized I haven't written anything since Monday which is kind of a record for me ;) Week and weekend were busy, as I'm sure you all were. Full of school, tests, homework, work, cleaning, babysitting, bonfires, and WIND! Wow it's been windy!

Work is winding down. It looks like I will be done sooner than expected (or at least this is the plan until he decides he needs me after all) He originally wanted to keep me until Thanksgiving time, but now he's pushed me back up to the beginning of November. I might only be employed for another 2 weeks! Which is kind of scary considering that'll be two months without pay! (Poor college student here). So I will probably be for hire if anyone has jobs they don't want to do! ;)

I heard Christmas music at the grocery store the other day... Please explain to me why we feel a need to play Christmas music in October. Come on. The little kids haven't even trick or treated yet. It was 80 here one day last week. There is no excuse for this! I started thinking this as I heard "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" For some reason, this is a sad song. Am I the only one who feels this way? Does anyone else get that sad feeling when they hear it? Maybe I'm odd. I've never claimed to be normal! :)

Sunday School

I look forward to the 3rd Sunday of the month, every month. I went to adult Sunday School and Greg Sauder taught us a wonderful lesson. He spoke about Saul and Samuel. Good lessons in humility. We always think of Saul as "the bad guy". Well he didn't start out that way! Go read 1 Samuel 9. Then to read what God REALLY expects of us, go read Micah 6:8. That verse can sum up all you need to know. I'm convinced. I always know I'll get to hear either Greg or Jerry, and I love them both. I always walk out of adult class thinking "Man, this world really just doesn't matter at all. Why do I worry about stuff so much?" Maybe it's their wisdom rubbing off. Between those 2 and Glenn, I could just go home at 11:15 and be full. I wish we had adult class EVERY Sunday!

This job at Clifton Gunderson is just getting scary close. It is mid-October & I start Jan 5. While you may be saying to yourself, "That's still over 2 months away" Historically, November & December FLY. So basically my new job is almost here. Which is so weird to me cuz that's my real job in the real world with my real degree....

I will have to admit I'm gonna miss Z-Chiropractic, mainly the people. I'll miss my patients & co-workers. November is going to be a huge month there. Several of us are quitting, and a new doctor is coming in (tandem with Dr. Z) Quite honestly, I think the first month will be nearly disastrous. New people in, old people out, sharing space.... I just think it'll be rough at first. Especially if we have a full schedule of our current patients + all the new doctors patients! Yikes!

The fun things we do in class

I feel like each time I decide to blog, all I ever talk about is school. Which probably bores the majority of you, but quite honestly it's what consumes a lot of my time. But guess what, it's Friday, and that's a truly beautiful thing! :)

School positively crawled by yesterday... For some reason I forgot to eat breakfast, and for some reason, that made a BIG difference. It made me feel that much more tired and unfocused, since I'm already bored in my first two classes. I decided that forgetting to eat breakfast is not an option anymore! :/

Speaking of being bored, I have this law class at 12:35 on T/Th. I have it with Lisa Martin, Julie Kaeb, and Wendi Kelson. So one day we decided to play old-school church games. Did anyone else play these games in church? Wendi and I played Dots, and Hangman, and drew our names in bubble letters and colored them in (with pencil). That's another one of my classes that just seems to serve no purpose. We make it pretty entertaining though... By this time, I know the majority of the people in my top level classes. Because I've been going to classes with the same people for 3 years, it's kinda fun to know everyone really well now and be able to talk to anyone.

Last night was Bible study. Randy Mogler came to speak to us about Jesus (specifically the crucifixion) He went through and analyzed the 7 phrases Jesus said on the cross. He analyzed each phrase and how it was directed at us. It was really good, and he had the magic Randy touch.

The joys of Insurance

I figure maybe it's time to write some more (I actually got a request to write more! WOW!) OK, so this tax test I "failed" last week. I am not sure HOW this happened. Somehow by God's glorious grace, I got an 80 on it. Seriously? How'd I pull that off? If that had been the CPA that'd be a pass grade. However, I do have a research memo due tomorrow. IRS's involvement with accrual working papers. Yawn. It involves this very complex research system, that I don't really understand, but I think I am supposed to. Sigh.... I guess I still have a lot to learn. P.S. That 80 was actually with a 5 point curve....

At my doctor's office we have good days.... and we have bad days.... Monday was my good day. Somehow I come into work this morning, and it's nothing but problems. This major outstanding balance from 2007 that I just found out today is not going to be paid by ANYONE. Old accounts we have sent to collections ... and aren't receiving a dime on. And Wesleyan students who expect full insurance coverage but aren't responsible enough to submit the required paperwork. OK they can't argue the college student excuse to me. They can't say they don't know any better. Guess what kids. I'M in college too & I'm smart enough to know you need to prove you're a full time student in order to get insurance coverage through your parents. I thought it was common sense.... apparently it's not.

Enough ventilation. Tomorrow will be a new day & hopefully my work mail stack will be huge, overflowing with checks from insurance companies and patients who are wanting to pay bills :)

My Monday

So I did my usual routine today. The standard work, school, study etc

We did statements at work this morning. Sounds boring but it's some high quality bonding time for us girls. Shout out to Brandy! :) Every month we have to send statements (bills) to literally every patient who has a balance. it's quite a chore. BUT Cyndi & Brandy help me do it now and it goes so fast. An all day job has been turned into about 3 hours or so. I needed to have it done by Wednesday. So having it done on a Monday makes the whole week seem less stressful.

School is still such a joke on Mondays. I went for an hour today & listened to my professor talk about golfing in Hilton Head & about his days working at the Chicago Mercantile. We were assigned to do case 1 and by the end of class, my group had case 2 completely done. We do not listen to him talk, we just work ahead.

I had my real estate group meeting tonight. Also, another joke. We're doing this presentation on the subprime mortgage crisis. My section of the report is tax legislation (yes, that's right, it's my specialty) But thank goodness I have a good group. Last semester I had several group projects & I really had issues with my team members. I have 3 teams for different classes this semester & all 3 teams seem to be well to work with so far. God's blessing me with a decent last semester!!

I am now watching some House and procrastinating doing more homework.

Wonderful Weekend

I actually had a pretty great weekend, all things considered. Just lots of relaxing, which is my primary goal on weekends. Whenever you read my blog on a weekday, I'll tell you what all I have to be doing that day & how stressed I am. But on weekends, I relax. It's my primary goal.

Friday, I had my Comm class final due at midnight. It was a multiple essay/speech final. There were 10 total & I had 5 of them done. While writing 5 speeches doesn't sound horrible, I did them all in one day! They weren't that great. But I am taking this class for the Pass only. I could care less about the grade. The CPA people don't care, and it'll never go on a transcript! But it's just really nice to have 1 of my 5 classes just DONE. Saturday was also nice. I came home & did stuff around home. I cleaned JK Construction in the morning. That's always fun. I don't know why.... I mean it's CLEANING.... but somehow it's kind of therapeutic. It's also nice side cash cuz I'm just the poorest college student ever!! Sometimes Marcia, Jerry, Carmen, Mike, Brett, or Tessa is there. This time I was 0 for 6. Not a soul besides myself. :( I went to a wedding this evening. OK not the wedding part but the reception! Kaitlyn's mom got married & I was a wedding crasher (ok reception crasher) I came to hang out with Kaits. Fun times!

I spent a lovely evening at the Milner library. Woohoo. It's probably my favorite place to study. If anyone knows of anywhere else good in Bloomington, let me know! I need changes of scenery sometimes. I did real estate homework, where I basically had to find myself the best mortgage. Now I'm a pro at that. I'll try to write more this week if anyone is still reading this. (I know it's so boring)

Don't take advanced tax

Ah.... sleeping in is probably turning into my FAVORITE thing to do... I slept until 9:30 today & let me tell you, it was delightful. I used to do this all the time, but in the past several years, I have grown out of it I guess.

You know how when you ask people "How did that test go?" They say "Oh man it was so bad, I'm sure I failed it" This is simply a figure of speech. "failing" means getting a grade lower than what they wanted. But this tax test, I probably failed it. The real kind of fail it. Normally when people leave a test in college, they just leave and walk to their next class or just go home if its their last class. No I walked out of that test yesterday, and there was just a bubble in the hall. A bubble of people with scared faces, and disbelief. Yes, I joined that bubble, and we're all pretty sure it was the most horrible test ever!

So this whole week I have literally put my life on hold for Advanced tax. How frustrating is that? You don't do anything else, any other classes, any other anything. Then you fail it anyways - probably along with the rest of the class. So today & tomorrow are going to be make up days. I am going to do all the rest of my homework (including my Comm Final which is due at midnight tonight) that I should've done all week in the next few days. And just catch up on any other stuff. I'm contemplating Washington on Sunday (YG is invited there). If anyone's going, Hollaback and I'll (maybe!) see ya there :)

Procrastination....

So I have my major tax test tomorrow at 2:00 PM and that's less than 20 hours away, and I'm writing on my blog. I get so tired of looking at numbers..... Earnings & Profits, Qualified Dividends, DPAD, DRD's, Alternative Minimum Tax ..... confused?? Me too.....

This week has been really busy (like always) but it makes it go SO much faster!! Everyone always talks about how the weekends go so fast, but honestly I think weeks go faster. My Monday-Thursday seems to go fast and my weekends go slower, probably because they are less busy. Trust me, that's the way I like it! I'd rather have Friday-Sunday go a little slower so I can enjoy my weekend.

I had my LAST class at ICC last night. It was just an interview. 10 "Unexpected" questions. For example "Through your entire academic career, who has been your most life-changing teacher, and why?" All the questions had some odd question and then I had to explain why I thought that way. I already have an odd way of thinking, so I am sure my professor was inwardly laughing at how stupid I sounded. Yeah....

Well that should do it for now - back to Tax!! :/

It was a Monday.....

Well it's been a busy 24 hours since I last posted! Last night we had Kaiser weiner roast. There were probably about 50 of us. Beautiful weather!! It was very nice to spend some time with aunts, uncles, and cousins! I see most of them in church, but I don't necessarily get to talk to them all that much, so it was kinda nice. When I got home, Mindy had Adam & Ashley over. I worked with Adam at Delta, so it was fun to catch up. They played Wii trampoline. It was pretty sweet. I just watched because quite frankly I'd look like such a dork if I tried to do that!

Got up and went to work this morning. I work at Dr. Zozzaro's in Bloomington doing insurance. Nothing too exciting today. I am done there in November, so I am doing a lot of documenting for my replacement. I started with very little instruction and help, so he wants to make sure my replacement isn't as clueless as I was :/

I didn't go to class today - kind of a bad habit I've gotten into. It's only one class & it's the most worthless class. He rants and raves, and doesn't teach out of the book. He's also got a big ego so I don't like to listen to him. Came home and relaxed. I have a tax test on Thursday so I am spending most of my time preparing for that. Aaron Schock is on WEEK 25 tonight, so I am gonna watch him cream Colleen Callahan! Also had a group meeting this afternoon for my real estate class. Over subprime mortgages, housing legislation, and the bailout. I'll have to learn a lot so any of you can ask me any questions about it because in a few weeks I'll be a pro! :) Over & out. Thanks for reading!

Dedication to Kaits

I've always said I'll probably never start a blog. Never say never. I really don't even know why I am doing this, but I've always thought it sounded fun. I'll warn you (anyone bored enough to read this) that I probably won't post real often, simply because my life is so boring, I really couldn't come up with stuff to post :/ Haha.... my inspiration has been Kaits. I read Kait's blog all the time, and thought "Oh if she can do it, so can I!" So I'm doing it.

Today was church. Went to Tremont & there was a wedding. Sarah Bolliger married Royce Schieler from Goodfield. It was a nice wedding - nice service. I saw a few people I went to high school with and that was fun. I don't see very many THS graduates around! We have a campfire tonight with family. It's at Tim & Ruth Kaiser's farm. Should be fun! I'm usually not a fan of fall, but I love bonfires & roasting hotdogs! :)

Well I'll post more another time. I have to get the word out I have one of these. Otherwise I'm basically typing a diary no one will ever read. What's the fun in that? :)
