Personality types

This entry is not really devoted to what's going on in life, but just some interesting thoughts about our marriage. Since being married, Joel and I have discovered how Night and Day we truly are. NOT in a bad way... just in a way that makes us so right for each other.

A good friend told us shortly after being married, that we should take a Myer Briggs personality test just to see where we scale in comparison with each other. MB is the test with 4 letters that describe you. Introverted or Extroverted, iNtuitive or Sensing, Feeling or Thinking, and Judging or Perceiving. Yup come to find out, Night and Day right here. Joel is an ENTP and I am an ISFJ. Ironically enough I read that an ISFJ is the hardest of the 16 personalities to get along with (thanks MB for that!!) And an ENTP is one of the most easy to get along with and most flexible in terms of getting along with everyone else. Meaning, I married someone who can get along with the most "un get along able" of the types. Sweet. Anyways, just wanted to pass that along. Go find a free version online, take it, and read about yourself. I was smiling as I read my description because it was so scary accurate.

Joel is the ultimate relaxer and never worrier. I am the ultimate high strung freak outer. We are starting to rub off on each other. I'm learning that it's OK to sit down sometimes in the evenings, and he's learning how to help me when I'm stressed out. And we're both doing it without being told. I don't have to ask him to do things for me, and I'm learning that every single thing doesn't have to be done TODAY.

This week I was getting frustrated with work and the fact that I get home so much later. When I lived with mom and dad, I'd get home at 5:30-6 and supper would be ready. (I have a great mom) Now, I come home and guess what. Supper isn't ready. This past Monday I got home at 7:00 and was like "Great I still have to make supper" Yes I will confess we had frozen pizza. So by Wednesday or so this week, I was frustrated and Joel was like "You don't have to cook you know...." Do I have the best husband ever? Yes. Come to find out, he doesn't really care if I cook, I'm the only one who really cares. So new approach. I'll be doing more cooking on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and more going out during the week. Why didn't we think of this before? Instead I spend all Saturday being lazy, then we go out to eat. So that's gonna change. :)

My face is burning

I just wanted to grab some attention with my title. Actually I just wanted to rub in that I'm sitting outside in the glorious labor day sunshine updating my blog. It is burning though. My pasty white skin hasn't seen sun for weeks, so one hour is frying my face. Sad but true!

I started work this past week. It was kind of a week of ups and downs. Monday was orientation and program training. I actually came home very tearful & upset Monday night with this whole realization that summer vacations are over, spring breaks are over, no more getting off work at noon, no more lazy days. It just kinda hit me like a brick on my first day. Also I was informed I'll be doing some traveling in the upcoming months. I'm looking at St. Louis & southern IL for weeks at a time at the end of this year. The most sad thing about that is the fact that I'm still a newlywed and having to be gone for weeks at a time is kind of sad :( I'll miss Joel, but we've both decided he'll probably get better grades while I'm gone. In the evenings when I'm home from work, I demand time, and if I'm not there, he'll have better grades. Still sad though.

But on the plus side, I am busy working doing what I love. I worked on my first engagement this past Friday and just soaked it up. I worked for about 5-6 hours, but the day flew by because I was actually doing what I love. The days actually do go really fast when I'm busy on an engagement. So IF I'm traveling, chances are I'll be busy and it will go by fast.

Joel started his semester and he's already hopping busy. He has Peds clinicals on Monday at the childrens hospital of IL at OSF. He's only gone once for orientation but I'll update when I know if he enjoys it or not. He has ob/gyn clinicals on Fridays. He had his first clinical this past Friday and he watched a C-section delivery of twins. Um... JEALOUS!! Our conversation Friday evening:

Joel: How was your day?
Marcy: Oh it was good. I was out on a client engagement today. Audited some current assets. How was your day?
Joel: Cool. I watched a C-section on twins. It was SWEET.

Yeah I decided he probably picked the cooler profession. Although someday he'll come home and I'll ask him what he did and he'll say he wiped butts and changed bedpans all day. Then I won't be so jealous! :)

Saturday: Went boating with Mike, Carmen, Mindy, & Mom. It was AWESOME. Totally rained the later half of the day but I didn't care. We just boated, tubed, skiied, and double skiied. I've never skiied with two ropes and two skiiers and it was probably the highlight of my day. You couldn't knock the stupid grin off my face even though it was chilly, rainy, and windy. I'm in my element when I get to go on a boat. THANKS Mike & Carm! :)

No exciting plans here for Labor day. Joel worked 3rds last night, had clinical orientation this morning, and is working 3rds again tonight. Woohoo. Love 3rds. Just kidding.

Probably the only August post

I always tell myself I'm going to post a little more often, but in reality there's nothing new or exciting enough to post! :/

I start work at Clifton on Aug 31, which is 8 days from now. Many feelings about that. Excited, but also nervous. Excited to get out and work and be busy. Nervous, cuz I've never worked full time while married. Joel and I have already discussed how this "cooking" thing is probably going to diminish considerably. I told him he could pick his favorite meals this week for me to cook because it might not happen so often once I start ;) I also figure it will be nice to have a real paycheck to pay bills and buy the things we've been putting off for so long. Joel's laptop sparks when it's plugged in (I'm convinced it will literally blow up one day, I'm not kidding) so he'll need a new one. Also have a dining room table picked out. Our current table can squeeze 4 people (not comfortably) and we have a grand total of 2 chairs. So it might be nice to have a real set :)

Today we had G&G Dunlap's 25th wedding anniversary. It's been a busy weekend cleaning, yard work, and preparing food for the big event! So much fun though. They had 60ish people out to their place today. It was so special to celebrate their day!!

I'll post again when I start work :)

Has it really been that long...

It's been way too long since I've posted on here. I realize that. After several messages from friends on Facebook, I'm back to updating again.  I'll try better this next month I promise!! I'm just gonna post tidbits for now & post more later.

So I still work for Nate & Justin Herman, a job I love.  It's funny - I was hired to fix their books and do accounting stuff.  I probably do accounting stuff for like 15 minutes a day now, and the rest I do their shipments.  I can tell you anything you need to know about pond chemicals now!! :)

I spend lots of time writing thank you's. Seriously, when does this end!! I thought I'd be long done by now, but every time I look through my list, I was never even half done.  I officially passed half done sometime this past week.  Sad...

But the good news is everything is completely put away now, and decorating is done too. Yes friends, it looks like a home. Come visit, come see it!

I've also decided I'm not a fan of Joel's overnight job. He works 3rds, which I DON'T like. I didn't think I'd mind so much, but I've become quite a baby since being married.  I don't like to be in my house by myself.  I LOVED it when I lived in Bloomington, but now I don't like it.

I will put myself on the list with EVERYONE else that has complained about this being a rainy summer.  I've wanted to spend time at the pool every weekend, and it hasn't happened for about 3 weeks. Guess that's what happens when it's cloudy/rainy every weekend! :(  I have not given up hope! I still have another 6-7 weeks until I start full time.   So I'm hoping the sun will shine for me!  I love lazy pool days!  But then again, who doesn't?  :)

Honeymoon adventures

I'll start by saying the trip overall was fabulous. We had nice weather, great resort, and met some fun people. I'll just start at the beginning though.

We drove to St. Louis Wednesday and were up by 4 the next morning to get on a flight to Cozumel. We boarded the plane and thought all was well. The captain told us there was a ground stop in Dallas for 45 minutes due to thunderstorms. OK we thought. We'll still make it. We started to get antsy when the ground hold kept delaying us further. We sat on the plane for about 4 hours, then the captain comes on again and says those dreaded words. "We're sorry folks. After all your patience, we are indeed cancelling this flight" What?? OK so off the plane. We called Expedia (whom we booked through) No they can't do anything for us. It's in American Airline's hands now. So we call American. They can get us to Cancun tomorrow (but not Cozumel) So we took that option, the sooner the better. We went to the St. Louis zoo that afternoon, which was the fun part of the day. Time for supper. Joel's got a GPS in his phone so we punch in Chili's cuz we both think that sounds good. It gives us directions to the nearest one. We end up driving to the St. Louis airport and it saying we were there. Umm..... So apparently there's a Chili's INSIDE the terminal. Really? We ended up going to Applebee's instead. So much for the great GPS.

Next morning started exactly like the previous morning. Up at 4 and waiting for the hotel shuttle. It was ironic how excited we were the morning before and how having to do it all over again was SO grumpy. We made it into Cancun with no flight troubles at all. Once there, we had to go through a line of immigration, wait in the line because of course Joel's bag didn't show up because it was tagged to Cozumel, wait in customs line, and finally we had to figure out how we were going to get from Cancun to Cozumel. So we found a bus that would take us to Playa del Carmen and from there, we walked to the ferry site. The ferry ran on even times. So 12, 2, 4, 6, etc. We got there at 2:08. Yes just our luck, right? We waited around and finally got to the island at about 4:45. Waited in line for a taxi. And FINALLY got to the resort.... So worth it....

Funnyish stories from the trip:

We went to bed at 8:30 the night we got there. We were SO TIRED... Around 11:30 we just hear this knocking. knock knock knock......... knock knock knock...... This continued on for several minutes. I got up and looked through the peep hole. Some guy. I'm not answering it!! So I go back and I'm like "Joel this guy really isn't going to go away!" I figured whoever it was would figure out we were sleeping or just not there, but he knocked for so long. Joel finally got up and answered the door. It was his luggage!! :) So the bellboy was a little startled and embarassed to have woken us up. But well worth it. Joel had been wearing the same clothes for 2 days. :P

We went shopping in Cozumel on Monday. We thought oh this will be fun. We'll get a knock off Rolex for $15 and some Oakley sunglasses. You know, the usual stuff in Mexico. Think again. Stupid swine flu seriously scared everyone away. It's not worth it to the merchants to open the stores if no one is around. The "mall" was a dead zone. Maybe 4 stores open out of 40 or so. It was crazy!! So we didn't get the dumb touristy stuff everyone gets. :/ Oh well!

Vaca tomorrow :)

We leave for Cozumel tomorrow. I'm just a little bit antsy. I'm excited, but yet I don't feel like we're ready to go at all. I hate the feeling of leaving everything behind and not getting anything done. I've been told I need to work on this so it will probably be good to just go and not think about life. In the meantime, I have about 34857 things to do tomorrow before we can leave. I am working early in the morning, then appointment, then lunch with Natalie & Landre, then lots of packing, cleaning out the car, running to Wal-mart, printing off itineraries and vouchers, then finally when Joel gets home from his last final, we're supposed to drive down to St. Louis. Phew!! I'll be ready for a vacation! :)

New life

So I realized this evening that I haven't posted since I've been married so this is overdue (it's always overdue though!!) Married life is good. It's actually less different than I thought it would be, if that makes sense. I thought marriage would be this crazy change, and I'd have to get used to all these new things at once and so far it's not that different. I know it'll change as we move along, but one week to the next didn't make a ton of difference. I lived in our house first, so it's not like I had to move. Since Joel lived so close, I still saw him most days anyways. I was already doing laundry, cleaning, cooking on my own, so none of that was new. The difference is Joel being here and STAYING here. :)

You might also think that since we've been here for 2 weeks now that I'd be organized. Negative!! I have MOST of the stuff put away in cupboards, cabinets, etc. BUT I still have one counter that has boxes needing to be put away, and I have a stack of empty cardboard boxes that needs to be burned (when Joel has time), and I have a stack of stuff to return to Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Bergners. I also have a decoration stack, picture frames, wall art, shelves etc that needs to be put up, but I have NO taste for interior decorating so I have to wait for someone with expertise in that area to have time to come help me. It's pathetic really.

Since I am still in limbo with my full time job, I am working part time to fight off the bills. CG is still saying "fall" but I don't have a set date yet. In the meantime I have several months that will need income to pay the bills. Joel is taking summer classes (full load) so him working this summer isn't really an option. So our awesome friend Justin offered for me to help book keep for his business with his brother Nate. It's a win-win situtation for us I think. I needed something extra to do, and they needed extra summer help to keep up with bills and office stuff while they are out on jobs. So I am working (as of now) Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It's a great job - I already love it! :)

Joel has finals for the next week straight. He starts Thursday and has one like every day until May 13 the next week. Then we leave for Cozumel May 13! :) I'll post pics of that when we get back. We're pretty pumped. If anyone has any good Mexico advice (no stupid flu comments please) we're totally open to suggestions. What's fun to do around Cozumel/Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen/Cancun? Snorkeling? Scuba diving? We're not world travelers. So any advice would be appreciated!
